After sufficiently long use most products will exhibit a decrease in performance, i.e. deterioration of various properties such as mechanical strength resulting in malfunction. The first question is to find out what was the reason for the failure? Was the failure related to poor mechanical properties, wrong design, degradation, ageing or some other parameters? This information may be used to avoid similar failure scenarios in the future, to identify poor design solution and propose alternative materials to use.
