Life time extension

Perhaps the most important issue regarding products is to verify that the product will exceed a minimum service life independent of the real service life. Life time extension refers to an experimental procedure to asses a minimum service time of e.g. 5 years based on experimental data. Life time extension requires less work and will be more reliable than a conventional ageing study in order to predict the real service life.

By combining kinetic information it is possible to perform only one ageing experiment and from knowledge of the so called acceleration factor the minimum service life can be predicted. The ageing conditions should reflect the real aging of the material in its real environment.
